ShortCutMake and Sorting Icons on the Desktop

Keywords: shortcutmake sort icons arrange icons shelliconcache autoarrange

Question:

I found today that adding shortcuts to the desktop in Windows 95 using ShortcutMake() creates them in sorted order. This means that the order in which I want them to appear in the desktop, by adding them in a specific order, is not achieved. Is there any solution to this problem?

Answer:

  1. I think you have "autoarrange" set on the desktop.

  2. The desktop sorting information is saved in a "shelliconcache" file (something like that) in the windows directory. It seems impossible to modify or figure out how to modify.
