Frequency of dll updates

Keywords: Frequency of dll updates (

Question:

What is the frequency of dll changes within winbatch 2001 ie how often do they get updated by your company?

Answer:

We are more or less updating the WIL DLLs, in terms of adding new functionality and bugfixes, on a continual basis. We increment the version of the DLL everytime we make those changes. The name of the DLL changes upon major updates and upgrades. Sometimes several times a week.

See "The List of Fixes and Improvements.txt" file in your Winbatch folder to see what's changed, and the name of the corresponding DLLs.

If I knew why you were asking I may be able to give a better answer. It is quite difficult to add new features or fix bugs without updating DLL's.

Question (cont'd):

The reason for the question is that everything within the defence department is supposed to under configuration management and several other sections use different releases of Winbatch, froom 99b to 2001 K. A request was made to waiver the configuration change process to allow for the updating of winbatch dll's as they become available. With updates happening as frequently as a couple of times a week this poses a potential nightmare.

Answer:

I can understand the problem. Not sure what to recommend. Maybe alter the configuration on a 3 month or 6 month basis.

For example For Winbatch 2001 we had

2001A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,J,K,M,N, and P during 2001.

So far this year we are up to 2002B. However I expect a long delay before 2002C

And the various extenders get updated all the time. However it is likely that you do not really need the latest updates all the time.

My condolences.
