What is DDE?

Keywords: DDE definition

Question:

What is DDE? Do you have a brief description?

Answer:

DDE (Dynamic Data Exchange) is a protocol allowing applications to exchange messages in a mutually defined format and to exchange information in response to requests. In this fashion, a DDE server can supply data to several DDE clients in response to the clients' requests; the client applications are responsible for displaying or otherwise using the provided information.

A single DDE client can also query and request information from several servers; both clients and servers can also be interchangeable.
