Accessing a Local File and Disallowed Error Message

Keywords: disallowed local file access

Question:

I am just starting to work with the HTML dialogs and have been receiving errors whenever I try to click on an action button on an html form loaded via WinBatch. These errors occur on the html sample scripts provided that come with the extender so I have no idea how to approach the problem. The error I receive is:
	Accessing the resource
	'file:///d:/progra%20files/winbatch/ignored'
	has been disallowed.
I am anxious to solve this problem as I would like to use the robust features that an html dialog would provide.

Thanks....

Answer:

Well, you are not alone. I did some searches on the newsgroups and... there are a few people with this problem asking for help, and maybe someuseful responses. Here's what I found..

First the synopsis of the fixes, then below the full text of the stuff I found

Fix #1:

Don't know if this applies... if you remove the Run command from your start menu (with the use of System profiles, TweakUI98 or by use of the registry) IE4 has problems on local pages. You will see an 'Access denied' message. Restoring the run command fixes the problem.

Fix #2:

	HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoClose
Removing that key fixes the problem. No clue why they are related, but thought I'd pass it on for anyone else having the "disallowed"error.

FYI: Other User Postings with Similar Error:

I am having a problem after upgrading to IE 4.01 (under WIN95) when using our local intranet. All of the links worked fine in IE 3.0 and IE 4.0. Since I loaded IE 4.01, I get this error message when linking:

"Accessing the resource: 'file://imccom/imc-intranet/BOOKS/search.htm' has been disallowed".

Could IE 4.01 have changed the permission settings when it was installed? If so, what needs to be done to get it back? I've asked our computer services, but have not gotten an answer. So, I don't know if I have to change a setting in the browser or if computer services will have to change something on our server. Anyone know what could possibly be wrong? I've included the html from the page that won't link below:

IE4.01 will not let me surf .HTML on my HD but it has no problems with surfing the net. When I first installed IE4, I didn't have this problem. The problem effects page links on my local html pages. The error I get is ' accessing the resource file C:\\\page.html has been disallowed' or something like that. Any help would be great, considering I am taking a class in HTML and I need to surf my own pages....

I'm fairly new to Javascript etc, but I've created a fairly complicated page that has several frames on it.

This page seems to work fine with IE 3.01, but not with Netscape Nav. Some frames are pure HTML and one is created by a CGI script. I need to pass values (eg. the title of the HTML doc in a frame) from the frame created by the script to one created soley with HTML that has a javascript program in it.

Unfortunately the only ISP I've got access to at the moment insists on two completely different addresses for the HTML docs and the CGI scripts. This give no problems with IE 3.01 but when passing the info with Netscape I get an error message saying that passing info between two domains has been disallowed (I suppose this is for some imagined security reason).

Hi!When I open a LOCAL html file and try to follow a link to another document in my local disk, I get the message

"Access to file has been disallowed"

and, obviously, the browser doen't go to the page I want to visit.

Any help?

Hi, if i will start a html-file from my CD-Drive i get the following error -messages in the IExplorer: "Accessing the resource file:///d:/blabla has been disallowed". With Netscape i can start the file without problems.

Hi,

beim Öffnen von html-files von einer CD bekomme ich im IExplorer die Fehlermeldung 'Accessing the resource file:///d:/blabla has been disallowed. Mit Netscape kein Problem.

bug oder feature?

rob

Here is an odd one. I use Money 99 which uses IE4.01SP1 on Windows NT 4, SP3 - no active desktop.

I got an error message pulling up a report in HTML which calls IE4 for displaying and calculating it.The message is:Accessing the resource 'file:///C:/Program%20Files/Microsoft%20Money/WebCache/mrptcont.htm' has been disallowed.

I have seen others with this problem with other programs, but no one has been able to fix it. I have been on the phone with MS Support on this off and on for nearly two months.

I had the following registry key, which is not a default in NT, but it is discussed in the Resource Kit.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoClose
Removing that key fixes the problem. No clue why they are related, but thought I'd pass it on for anyone else having the "disallowed" error.

Rob,

Can you view pages on your hard drive but not your CD, or is it universal ?

Don't know if this applies... if you remove the Run command from your start menu (with the use of System profiles, TweakUI98 or by use of the registry) IE4 has problems on local pages. You will see an 'Access denied' message. Restoring the run command fixes the problem.

Hope this helps, Max

Resolution:

Yes! That was helpful. First of all, I removed IE 4 with SP1 and reinstalled the original IE 4 and didn't have the problem so it would appear that this problem is new with ie4 with sp1.

Then I deleted the:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer[NOCLOSE]
value on my other machine with IE4-sp1 and the problem went away on that machine as well.

Much thanks for your persistence.
