Availability of Terminal Services

Keywords: terminal services

Question:

I don't have terminal server installed in my office. I did not try to test the code, assuming that I would not get a list of all processes !

Answer:

If you have Win2K or WinXP then you have terminal services available. It is present on Win2K in the form of Remote Administration [via Terminal Services]. On WinXP, Terminal Services is the foundation for Fast User Switching, and it is also the basis for the Remote Desktop [a.k.a. the Remote Administration from Win2K]. So, as long as you enabled the remote admin functionality and/or fast user switching [where appropriate] then you can use the terminal services client to connect to your Win2K/WinXP system. Then, you can have one [or possibly two] terminal services sessions running in addition to the console session. This should give you enough different sessions to test out the ability to obtain a list of proceses for a session other than your own session while logged on to the session as a "normal" user. Also, remember that on WinXP Home you are by default equivalent to the "Administrator" account regardless of what user account you logged on with.
