SMTPSendText Body Not Sent

NOTE THIS BUG FIXED IN CURRENT VERSIONS OF THE DLL 11117 OR NEWER

Keywords: SMTPSendText winsock internet extender

Question:

I have been using the Winsock extension on NT 3.51 to handle Webforms (SMTPSendText) to send an e-mail of the form content to a specific user on a MicroSoft Mail/Exchange as well as to a CC Mail user. The Message Body does NOT get sent. I went into debug mode and everything seems ok.

The text for the body appears on the line after the Subject: line, but for some reason it doesn't get sent to the end user. The only thing I see different from other mail messages that are correct is that there is nothing to designate what type of mail message it is ( Mime, Text, etc. ) Would you have any ideas what is going on?

Answer:

This seems to be a bug in our WinSock extender that shows up in certain configurations with Microsoft (I think) SMTP email servers.

Upon closer examination, we found that the SMTP mail messages that worked all had a blank line between the header information and the text in the body of the message. So if you begin your message line with a Carriage Return / Line Feed ( %@CRLF% ), the message comes thru correctly. Also, until this is fixed in the Winsock DLL, your To and From addresses have to be enclosed in < > ( ) or the SMTP mail server will reject them.

We will post a new copy of the Internet extender as soon as these fixes have been implemented.
