Server Error upon Entering License Data
Keywords: Server Error
Question:
After calling webatch.exe to get the license form, and entering the license ID and NUM,
I press the submit button and get an error:
Server Error
This server has encountered an internal error which prevents it from
fulfilling your request. The most likely cause is a misconfiguration.
Please ask the administrator to look for messages in the server's error
log.
Why is this?
Answer:
The theory is that the "reverse lookup" on the users DNS server
in improperly configured. When Netscape gets a message, it is via
an IP address. Something like 123.456.654.321. Netscape asks the
DNS server the name of the computer involved. The DNS server
is returning the name of some OTHER server. very unhappy situation.
- To debug this, try:
http://.../../webbatch.exe?dumpinputdata
This (with luck) will dump a list of input data. But it might not
on unlicesed copies. So then try..
- When the registration form is displayed, hit the view source
menu item on the Browser and look at it. Find the FORM html statement.
Look at it. Is the http: url valid? Is the computer name the same as
the one used in the url used to get to the registration screen? Or
if it is a number, is it a good number?
