Question:

I tried to start recording a macro. While doing so (using winmacro within the litlle brown owl at the right bottom of the screen) I could move the mouse. That is all I could do. Clicking anywhere did not have any result. Using keystrokes like alt tab did not result in anything. pressing ctrl alt end did stop recording. The macro showed empty I'm running windows XP and WinBatch version 2006C. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Answer:

Best guess it that another running program running is also intercepting user input but not correctly passing the information on to WinMacro.

I don't want to alarm you but are you using AntiVirus software? The "other" program could be a worm or virus but it may not be.

The issue has been mentioned a few times (probably less the 5 times) in the last 6 years and a misbehaving "other" program has been the explanation in most cases but there are other possibilities. A partial list of these possibilities includes a buggy keyboard driver, corrupt executable image, or perhaps interference from AntiVirus software.
