Intcontrol 30 and Moving Files on Shared/Mapped Drives

Keywords: Intcontrol 30 Moving Files Shared/Mapped Drives

Question:

Whan I execute this command on a mapped network drive, it makes a regular move (returns 2 = no delay)

Will this never work on a shared/mapped network drive?

Answer:

IntControl(30...) is behaving as expected. The delayed file move feature of WinNT only works on local files. Remember, the file move happens upon the next reboot of WinNT after IntControl(30...) queues up the delayed file move request. The local operating system is performing the move and it does not have network drive letters connected to remote shares at boot time (and generally never).

Drive letters connected to remote shares are only used by the interactive user who is logged in on the desktop. The operating system and the interactive user run in separate security contexts. Interactive users have a set of credentials that have been authenticated by a domain controller or by the local workstation's SAM database. These credentials are used in accessing shares on remote systems. The operating system does not have any credentials to allow it to access shares on remote systems.
