1420 Error Saving Shortcut File During Setup
Question:
I am attempting to install 2006A on a Windows 2000 SP4 system. I keep getting the error
1420 (Shortcut functions: Error saving shortcut file) on the line
ShortcutMake(ScName,fd,"",FilePath(fd),@NORMAL)
Answer:
The problem is most likely that the script is trying to create a shortcut that points to ‘C:\Program Files\WinBatch\system\PopMenu.exe’
in the following directory: ‘C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\’. For some unknown reason it is
unable to create the shortcut. The developers believe it is most likely due to the level of security privileges you are
installing with.
The developers suggest either installing using an account that has higher level of privileges.
OR
Tell WinBatch to install without attempting to create a shortcut to Popmenu.
- Look for the ‘setup.inf’ file in the Install directory (C:\WinBatch), open it with an editor (ie. notepad).
- Within the file search for the word ‘f4x10’. We are going to edit the following line:
f4x10=disk2, normal|startup|apppath|icon|?p, pop44I.ex_, system\popmenu.exe, system\PopMenu.exe
- Change to: (by taking out "startup|")
f4x10=disk2, normal|apppath|icon|?p, pop44I.ex_, system\popmenu.exe, system\PopMenu.exe
- Run the setup again and let us know the results.
