Automate DHCP Server
Keywords: Automate DHCP Server
Question:
I am trying to add DHCP Server service to NT 4 server. I am successful using the wntSvcCreate(...) and
then dropping known registry keys ontop, if I dont drop the keys Dhcp Dr Watsons on start. If there is a
simpler way, please share. I also am cfging the Scope, successfully with the Ctrl Mgr Extender, but would
like to do via Registry or some less risky method. (Ive tried via the registry, but I get a File Not Found
message when trying to get stats on the scope, and clients cant obtain IP, but the properties seem OK.) Is
this possible w/ out the CtrlMgr extender?
Answer:
Driving the DHCP Administrator program with the Control Manager extender is the best that you can do
right now. Not all of the config information goes right into the registry; some of it goes into the DHCP.MDB
file. Also, some of the configuration information goes into the registry, but first it passes through the DHCP
server program and thus is stored in memory as well as in the registry w/o having been read from the
registry; it will be re-read from the registry the next time that the DHCP server starts up.
As for adding the DHCP Server service, you could try using the Control Manager extender to drive the
Network Control Panel applet to add the DHCP service through the regular management interface. I don't
see why you couldn't add it directly with WinBatch [in the way that you are currently trying], but I have not
tried to do that before.
