Control Manager and 64 bit Controls

Keywords: Control Manager Vista 64 bit

Question:

Does Wilson Windowware have plans to update the control manager extender for 64-bit or Vista controls? The help file is liberally sprinkled with warnings that 64-bit controls are not supported and I assume that will become an issue as 64-bit computers become more popular. Also, does Vista introduce new control types and if so, are there plans to support them?

Answer:

There are always plans and generally, WinBatch is modified as demand dictates.

Control Manager currently works with 32-bit controls on 64-bit XP and Vista. Most Control Manger functions work with with 64-bit controls as well. The 25 or so functions out of the 70 that do not work with 64-bit controls are noted in the documentation. And since most 32-bit applications run perfectly well on 64-bit XP/Vista, there are not a lot of 64-bit controls out there to worry about.

Control Manager is designed to work with Windows User and Common Controls. We are not aware of any new User or Common Controls in Vista. For the most part the Common Control changes for Vista fall under the general category of "eye candy" and really don't effect the underlying functionality much.
