Minimized if UAC is Enabled

Keywords: Minimized Iconized Run RunZoom UAC Enabled Install Setup Vista x64

Question:

My PC was upgraded from Win2K to Vista recently. Now, whenever a compiled Winbatch executable is ran, it runs minimized. This is causing problems with SendKey commands, etc. Is there a Global setting that is causing this? I have even tried RunZoom and WinShow commands within the script and still it runs minimized.

My script runs an "automated" install for some user software. A message box appears that the user confirms to continue the install. If the user selects OK, then a RUN command of the install is executed. On Win2K, the install window would open and the winbatch sent keyboard responses to finish the installation. On Vista, the message box appears, but after that, only the winbatch executable icon remains on the task bar and the install window never appears.

Answer:

How does the script get launched? (double click or as a scheduled task?)

What account is the script running under?

Is the installation program being run with elevated privileges while UAC is enabled? Typically, installation programs must be run w/elevated privs when UAC is enabled. If that is being done, your WinBatch script must also be running w/elevated privs, too, or else it won't have permission to send keystrokes to the windows owned by the installation program.

User Reply:

It was the UAC and elevated priveleges that got me. Once I changed the elevated priveleges to highest available, it worked fine.
