Named Pipes on Vista
Keywords: Pipe Named Pipes Vista
Question:
does anyone know if there is a limited no of pipes in Vista or even a restriction to only one???
Background is that I have a couple of scripts communication via pipes. They work fine from XP to XP and also from XP to Vista and back unless I try to open a second one :-(
Answer:
My understanding is the number of pipe instances that can be created is limited only by the availability of system resources.
Apparently Windows Vista has a stricter ACL created by default for named pipes.
Local Security Policies that control Named Pipes:
- Network access: Restrict anonymous access to Named Pipes and Shares
When enabled, this security setting restricts anonymous access to shares and pipes to the settings for:
Network access: Named pipes that can be accessed anonymously
Network access: Shares that can be accessed anonymously
Default: Enabled.
- Network access: Named pipes that can be accessed anonymously
This security setting determines which communication sessions (pipes) will have attributes and permissions that allow anonymous access.
Default: None.
