Question:

I have a script that calls wntServerlist, but fails with error 580: no browser serves found only on Windows 2008R2. The program is working fine in Win Server 2003 and 2008. We only have the problem with 2008 R2

Answer:

WntServerList doesn't work on Win2k8R2 because the 'computer browser service' is not started by default. This function depends on the computer browser service running.

You will need to turn on 'File and printer sharing' in order to get all the service running for NetBIOS and allow wntServerList to work correctly. So you will need to goto Network->properties->Cahange advanced sharing setting then select "Turn on network discovery' and 'Turn on file and printer sharing'.

Make sure you can manually view all of the network from this system.

If that does not work then you will need to set a bunch of services to automatic and start them. Here is a recommended list:

• DNS Client
• Function Discovery Resource Publication
• SSDP Discovery
• UPnP Device Host
• Computer Browser
