RegConnect Issue

Keywords: RegConnect Issue Win7 Windows 7

Question:

What might cause a RegConnect: Invalid computer name when connecting to a Win7 computer. I'm a local administrator on that computer and it is on the domain. I have no problem with any other XP computer on the domain. The Win7 is an enterprise copy and is also 32 bit. I can ping the computer name as well. I have also turned the UAC off.

Answer:

The Remote Registry service is disabled by default on Windows 7 so you need to start it. MSFT describes doing this by performing the following:
To enable the Remote Registry service

On the computer where you want to record Shutdown Event Tracker data, click Start, click in the Start Search box, type services.msc, and then press ENTER.
Microsoft Management Console will start with the Services snap-in open.

In the console pane, right-click Remote Registry and click Start.
