The best tip for keeping your email tidy.

Delete emails permanently and immediately that you know you will no longer need. By holding the shift key while deleting a message this will cause the email to be permanently deleted. Without holding the shift key the item will move to your deleted items folder, still counting towards your total size and needing to be deleted once more to permanently remove it. Holding shift will by pass moving it to the deleted items. Delete immediately emails that you know you will never need to look at again.
