Hangs when Compiled as an EXS and Run as a Service

Keywords: Hangs when Compiled as an EXS and Run as a Service run Winbatch as a Service

Question:

I have written & compiled a WinBatch program which reads & then updates a registry value on another system. The program is running on a system using NT4 SP6 and the registry to be altered is on a system running Windows 2000. Everything works fine when run as an 'exe' from the desktop but hangs when compiled as an 'exs' and run as a service?

Answer:

Sounds like the account under which the service is running (LocalSystem?) is lacking permissions to perform the operation. The hanging is probably an error message to that effect, but unable to interact with the desktop. Try using IntControl 38 to set quiet mode and then look at the log file.
