How to push Microsoft hotfixes

 Keywords:

Question:

2000 Admins: How are you sending out hotfixes to your staff? Are you using WinBatch, or what?

I'm a little miffed that hotfixes aren't in .msi format. It would seem a perfect way to roll them out (pushing it out as a package).

We don't have SMS, and I'm trying to figure out if we should create a .zap file, or if a WinBatch client should run on their PCs, and check for updates kinda like the vcheck application.

Any suggestions?

Answer:

You might try looking at Microsoft's Software Update Services. Basically you have a central server for all of your updates and you configure the workstations to pull the updates from the SUS server.

I have not tried this free product yet, but from what I understand it is what you are looking for.

OR

There's a program called Daisy, that free open source hotfix solution. I believe it was written in WinBatch. Checkout...

At the very bottom of the webpage is a line about the programs it calls to do the work, you might use those in your script if you don't like Daisy.
