Altiris Problem

 Keywords: Altiris Access is denied

Question:

I'm trying to run a Winbatch script using Altiris Remote Deployment server. Basically, the script is run in the context of an account that has domain admin rights. I'm running an unattended install of an application through Winbatch which is calling the setup.exe on a share. Altiris first copies that Winbatch exe locally and runs it from there. Here is where my problem is. I keep getting an error "1932: Access is denied."

I can run the setup.exe logged in as the user manually no problem, but for some reason Altiris and Winbatch dont play nice together. I can't imagine it being a permissions issue because I can run other exe's and MSIs using the same account on machines remotely, but Winbatch is giving me a hard time. If someone has any input on this issue, it would be much appreciated.

Answer:

Are you using a local account with administrative privleges, or are you using a domain admin account? Reason I ask, if you are using a local admin account that doesnt have access to the network share, then the error you are getting will occur. For example, I can logon to a machine as a restricted user and access a network share without problem. But, if i run a script to access a file on the same network share that uses local admin credentials (that doesn't have access to the share), I get that error message.

User Reply:

Yes, that was the problem.
