Disappearing Error Messages

 Keywords: disappearing error message

Question:

When I test some code, whether I compile to an EXE or not, and I get an error, my error messages just flash on the screen and then disappear!

...I can test this with a deliberate error in a single line of code...and it does it every time:

message("wrong number","of quotes in this line)
exit
The error message flashes up on the screen, and then disappears immediately. It does this even when I compile the single line of code into an executable.

I'm using Winbatch+Compiler 2002h and running WinNT 4.0....I ran into this problem several months ago, and then it just went away all of a sudden. But this time, it's stuck around for at least the past 2 weeks.

I also compiled it to an EXE, and tried it on my coworkers' machines. The error message pops up and stays on the screen like it's supposed to for them. They are using the same kind of computer & software as I am.

...one of them is using Winbatch+Compiler 2002h, and the other one is using an older version ( 2002f), but neither one of them has this problem currently. HOWEVER, it did happen to one of them a couple of months ago, but it went away suddenly for her after a few days, as well.

Answer:

The only time I have seen this is when running some kinf of Internet Pop-up blocker that gets carried away blocking popups and whacked the error window.

What window was active when the error popped up MSIE by any chance?

User Reply:

Well, slap me silly! That was it! I run Pop-Up Stopper Pro in IE 5.5, and as soon as I closed all IE windows, the error messages stay up like they're supposed to!

...I just found an option in Pop-Up Stopper that says Automatic Error Dialog Closing, Automatically close script error and object error dialogs generated by Internet Explorer when some pop-up wondows are prevented.

I just unchecked that box, and now, all is well.
