DialogControlGet Selected Text

Keywords: DialogControlGet Selected Highlighted Hilited Text Editbox Edit GetDlgItem EM_GETSEL

Question:

While there is a request code to get all the text within an EditBox, there isn't one to get only the selected text. This would be useful when wanting to spell check only the selected text. Currently, my only choice appears to be to get all the text and then spell check it in its entirety. Has anyone found a workaround? If not, file this under "nice to have" as a feature request.

Answer:

You're in luck I found some code that can be used to get the start and end value of the users current selction in an EDITBOX. You can then use these values to parse the string for the selected text.

You can send the EM_GETSEL eessage to an editbox control to get the start and end points of the selected text: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/bb761598(v=vs.85).aspx
