GPF in WBCMP16I.DLL During Setup
Keywords: WBCMP16I.DLL WBDBG16I.DLL crash GPF sick machine
The problem occurs when trying to install the '95 versions
of our product on 16 bit systems running with Stacker
compressed drives. This problem is FIXED in the '96
versions of our product, available on this Web site.
(It's a free for the download upgrade from the WB 95 versions.)
Basically, the symptoms are: When the setup program attempts to determine
what kind of drive the setup program is running from, it keels over
right after the second dialog box in setup.
Other possible explanations for this error:
- A WinBatch DLL that was installed on a mapped network drive can't
be used because the network mappings have been torn down.
- A bum CPU and sick machine.
- A CTL3DV2.DLL or CTL3D.DLL file in the C:\Windows directory that
has become corrupted. Copy a good one to the suspect machine, and
see if that fixes the problem. There's a different version for 95, NT,
and Win 3.1.
- If you turn Debug on and it doesn't happen on the problem PC, it
could be a timing issue, and so this might indicate that you need to
add in a TimeDelay(2) around the problem code.
