Winbatch SETUP Hangs during Installation

Keywords: setup hangs installation

Question:

I've tried installing both the downloaded ZIP file AND Winbatch from CD, and both times the installation routine hangs at the onset, just after the blue setup screen is displayed. When I click on the Winbatch icon, it says "Winbatch processing...".

Answer:

First add a dummy file to the route of your C:\ drive named C:\WBSETUP.APP. Just open notepad, type *anything* and save the file as "c:\wbsetup.app". The flag is a flag file to tell the setup program to do something different (kind of like the wbdebug file).

Next disable the Microsoft Performance Monitor which seems to cause problems during installation.

There are other performance monitors available from:

   http://www.sysinternals.com/
The installation problem is that there is a part of the registry that can be opened and written to multiple times but closed only once.

Winbatch handles this correctly in its setup routine, but apparently some performance monitors open and close this part of the registry multiple times, and thus Winbatch cannot get at this part of the registry to make its necessary registry writes during installation, thereby causing the Winbatch setup program to hang.

Question:

Did you Winbatch installation go successfully after disabling the Performance Monitor?

Answer:

Not from the CD, but the trial version from the net installed after I created the file you indicated.

Thanks for your help.
