WinBatch FileMenus take up whole screen
Keywords: filemenu
Question:
This question is regarding the 32-bit Windows 95 version of WinBatch, the shareware version.
For awhile, everything was working fine.
Now, when ever I right click on a .WBT file, and only on a .WBT file, the FileMenu grows
to the entire horizontal length of my
monitor. The vertical is still fine, but the horizontal is just huge. The same time this
was happening the first time I saw this occur, I was
constantly getting EXPLORER.EXE errors which didn't cause me to re-boot, but it did wipe
everything off of my SYSTRAY and
caused the bouncy arrow to appear at my START button. I didn't suspect my WinBatch at the
time, but since I did notice the strange
FileMenu phenomenon, I decided to uninstall my WinBatch. Lo and behold, my computer hasn't
crashed since. Thinking this was a one
time anomally. I reinstalled WinBatch, and everything looked fine....for awhile. I'm not
sure what caused it, but all of a sudden, the
expanded FileMenu started happening again on all .WBT files. I haven't started crashing
again yet, but I would kind of like to know what
is causing this.
Answer:
- The workaround is to edit the menu file so that every pop out menu (a drop down) has more
than a single item. The bug occurs on pop out menus with only one item in them.
- The real fix is to download Powertoys from www.microsoft.com and install the ShellFix applet
stuff. It fixes a bug in Windows 95 called the "wide menu problem". The URL is:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/default.asp?CustArea=bus&Site=family&Product=Windows+95&Category=Power+Toys+%26+Kernel+Toys&x=17&y=15
- The problem is really a bug in Windows 95B. This bug was fixed in Windows 98.
